Within the past week, a Mississippi-based moms organization called the One Million Moms group has demanded that supermarkets boycott the newest Ben & Jerry’s limited-edition ice cream flavor, Schweddy Balls, named after the famous Saturday Night Live skit featuring Alec Baldwin.
On Thursday, The Huffington Post reported that the One Million Moms group has been giving a frosty reception to Schwweddy Balls, telling retailers to keep it out of their freezers and encouraging parents to ask the Vermont-based Ben & Jerry's to stop production of the item.
"The name is nothing but locker room humor that's not appropriate for young children," states the article, while an accompanying video says, "The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket."

The ice-cream contains rum balls and has quickly become the most popular limited-edition flavor the company has ever produced, according to Ben & Jerry’s spokesperson, Sean Greenwood.
What does this mean for local retailers?
"I'm not carrying it, but people have been asking for it," admitted Max Simon, who is in charge of the frozen foods at the A&P on Belleville Avenue in Bloomfield. Simon was not sure whether the absence of the flavor was a result of a boycott.

A customer service representative at Stop & Shop said the frozen foods manager was not in, but offered to check on availablity of the flavor. "We don't have it," she concluded.
When several empolyees of the Brookdale Shoprite were asked about it they said they were were aware of the flavor but didn’t recall ever seeing it in the store. “We don’t carry it,” said John Muirhead, manager of the frozen food division. He was not able to say whether the store’s decision to keep it off the shelves was based on the sexual innuendo-laced skit that inspired the flavor. “We just don’t carry it,” he reiterated.
