Overdue Book Returned To Montclair Library After 43 Years

MONTCLAIR, NJ — An overdue book was recently returned to the Montclair Public Library after more than four decades, staff reported.

“A very honest patron just returned a book that was due in 1978,” the library noted in a social media post earlier this week.

“Good thing we’re fine free,” library staff joked.

The patron included a note of apology with the book, “Paddington Abroad,” which was checked out of the children’s section of the library. It read: “My apologies for the late return. I guess it’s better late than not returning it at all.”
