MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair police arrested five people in a stolen BMW after a car chase that ended on the Garden State Parkway last week, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, officers responded to a report of a car burglary in the rear lot of Grove Street Liquors around midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The suspects fled the scene in a BMW before police arrived.

Shortly afterwards, officers saw a BMW speeding in the area of Watchung Avenue and Grove Street. They pursued the car onto the southbound portion of the Garden State Parkway. When the driver pulled over, three people got out and fled on foot. They were eventually captured by police, authorities said.

A pair of other suspects remained in the car and were also arrested, police stated.

Police eventually learned the BMW was reported stolen, and charged the five occupants of the car as follows:

  • Quanaisa Owens, 20, of Elizabeth was charged with resisting arrest and eluding
  • Koshua Houston, 20, of Newark, was charged with robbery, resisting arrest, and eluding
  • Niaja Morgan, 19, of Elizabeth, was charged with resisting arrest and eluding
  • Anthony Torres, 18, of Newark, was charged with robbery, resisting arrest and eluding
  • A 16-year-old Elizabeth female was charged with resisting arrest
