Port Authority To Halt Weekend Train Service On 33rd Street PATH Line
Weekend PATH train travelers to New York City will not be able to stop at 33rd Street starting in August, officials say.

Weekend PATH train travelers to New York City will have fewer options starting in August, when the Port Authority of NY/NJ begins federally-mandated safety renovations on the 33rd Street line.
According to the Port Authority, weekend PATH service on the 33rd Street line in Manhattan will be suspended starting in early August to install a new computerized signal system “designed to improve passenger service and safety.”
Service on the 33rd Street line will be suspended from 12:01 a.m. on Saturdays until 5 a.m. on Mondays, a schedule that is set to continue most weekends through December 2016, with the exception of major holidays, Port Authority officials stated.

Regular weekend service will continue on the Newark-World Trade Center (WTC) line and between Journal Square and Hoboken, officials said.
According to the Port Authority, service between Hoboken and WTC - normally not available on weekends - will be introduced.

At the center of the project is installation of Positive Train Control (PTC), an updated safety-enhanced system that the federal government has mandated to be completed by the end of 2018, officials stated.
“PATH riders affected by the closures may travel to the WTC station, which offers easy and accessible New York City subway service to uptown destinations,” Port Authority officials stated in a news release.
“While service is suspended, shuttle buses will be provided, making stops between the WTC and 29th Street along 6th and 7th avenues,” officials said. “The weekend closures will impact the Christopher, 9th,14th, 23rd and 33rd street stations.”
