On-The-Rise Jazz Musician From Montclair Making Waves: Report

Tenor saxophonist Ani Chakravarthy recently helped his school to win a big jazz competition, a report says.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — An on-the-rise jazz musician from Montclair is making his mark in the music world.

Tenor saxophonist Ani Chakravarthy, 18, recently helped his school – Newark Academy in Livingston – to win the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2024 Essentially Ellington competition. Chakravarthy was recognized as an Outstanding Tenor Saxophone.

The Montclair resident previously attended the Jazz House Kids Summer Workshop, calling it “one of the greater workshops to help you become a better musician,” the New Jersey Jazz Society reported as part of its “Rising Star” series.
