'Road Rage' Leads To Gunfire In Montclair; Bloomfield Driver Arrested

MPD: Police arrested a driver from Bloomfield who allegedly fired gunshots at a car during a "road rage" incident in Montclair.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police arrested a driver from Bloomfield who allegedly fired gunshots at another motorist's car during a “road rage” incident in Montclair on Monday night, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, officers responded to Washington Street and New Street at 9:54 p.m. after getting a report about a driver shooting at another car.

The victims told officers that a driver in a Tesla unsuccessfully tried to pass them, then followed them until they pulled over. The driver then allegedly pulled up, got out of the car and brandished a handgun – firing twice as the victims sped away and striking the rear windshield and the rear bumper, police said.

The shooter left the scene before police arrived, authorities said.

Working off a description of the vehicle provided by the victims, Montclair police located it in Bloomfield. With the aid of their Bloomfield counterparts, Montclair police arrested Nelson Santos, 42, of Bloomfield.

Santos has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault. He was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
