Robbery In Montclair Fails; Victim’s Friends Come To His Aid: PD
The victim said a man approached him, snatched his phone and demanded money, Montclair police said.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — A man tried to hold a victim’s phone hostage in a ploy for money during a robbery attempt in Montclair last week, authorities say.
According to the Montclair Police Department, the victim told officers the incident took place on Maple Avenue at 2:20 p.m. on Friday.
The victim said a man approached him, snatched his phone and demanded money. Some of the victim’s friends rallied to his aid, and the suspect dropped the phone and fled, police stated.

Police said the suspect was described as a man in his early 20's with a slim build. He was wearing a red t-shirt, black jeans and red and black sneakers.
