‘Service Disruption’ Hits Montclair School District’s Online Portal

A service disruption has thrown a monkey wrench into Genesis, the Montclair Public School District's online portal for parents and students.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A “service disruption” has thrown a monkey wrench into Genesis, the Montclair Public School District’s online portal for parents and students, officials say.

According to Superintendent Jonathan Ponds, the district was forced to temporarily take certain computer systems offline due to the incident, which took place Monday.

“The school district’s investigation of this incident is ongoing, and the school district is focused on restoring its systems as quickly as possible,” Ponds said Tuesday afternoon.

The incident will not impact the district’s ability to conduct classroom instruction, he added. No additional information was immediately available.

Montclair isn’t the only public school district in New Jersey that has seen issues with its online parent/student portal this week. Shore Regional High School announced Tuesday morning that its student/parent online portal was hacked, although its not clear if the two incidents are related.
