Several Motor Vehicle Crimes, Incidents Reported In Montclair

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Several Montclair residents reported crimes and suspicious incidents involving motor vehicles last week, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the following incidents were recently reported in the township.

April 12 (Greenview Way) - A resident of Greenview Way saw a man exit a black SUV and walk up her driveway. The man then entered her vehicle, which was parked in the driveway. The resident yelled to the man, who ran back to the SUV and fled north on Greenview Way.

April 12 (Orange Road) - A victim reported that his catalytic converter was stolen from his 2000 Honda CRV. The incident reportedly occurred between April 6 and April 7.

April 13 (Claremont Avenue) – A victim reported that her vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. The vehicle was rummaged through and a pair of sunglasses were stolen.

April 13 (Highland Avenue) - A resident reported that his home surveillance alerted him to an unknown man in his driveway entering his 2019 Range Rover. The man then retreated to an awaiting white Jeep Cherokee and fled north on Highland Avenue.

April 13 (Valley Road) – A witness reported seeing two men exit a dark-colored BMW SUV in a Valley Road parking lot and approach a Porsche SUV, which was parked. The Porsche was locked, so they were unable to make entry. Montclair police patrol units spotted the BMW fleeing east on Bloomfield Avenue. The BMW was later found to be stolen out of Fort Lee.

April 14 (Upper Mountain Avenue) - A resident reported that two unknown people opened the gate to his property and entered his unlocked vehicle. Nothing was reported missing. The suspects fled north on Upper Mountain Avenue in an SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer.
