MONTCLAIR, NJ — So it begins, Montclair.
Last week, the Montclair Public School District hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to officially kick off the first project being done as part of a $188 million series of upgrades, which local voters overwhelmingly approved in 2022.
There are 25 projects in all, with work expected to continue across the district through 2029. Each of Montclair’s public schools will receive needed improvements, with several of the oldest buildings — including Hillside ($25.5 million), Glenfield Middle School ($24.7 million), and Montclair High School ($48.5 million) — requiring the most extensive repairs.

The first project to see shovels hit the ground? Turf resurfacing at Woodman Field, which is scheduled to be finished this summer, district administrators say.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the improvements in store for our students over the next six years or more grateful to all the Montclair residents who have supported this plan,” Superintendent Jonathan Ponds said.
