Shuttered Montclair Firehouse Will Get $200K Boost From NJ Budget
An earmark in the latest state budget will help to fund repairs at a firehouse in Montclair, officials say.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — A $200,000 allocation in the state budget has been earmarked to help renovate a shuttered firehouse in Montclair, officials say.
New Jersey Assemblywoman Alixon Collazos-Gill (NJ-27) joined with elected officials from Montclair and Essex County last week to announce the funding boost, which will support repairs at Montclair Firehouse Station 3.
According to Collazos-Gill, the funding – which was included in the fiscal year 2026 state budget – will allow the Montclair Fire Department to continue making much-needed renovations on the firehouse, which was closed for repairs in July 2023.

“This station has been more than just a firehouse — for generations, it has been a safe haven for the South Ward of Montclair, a symbol of service, protection, and community,” Collazos-Gill said.
The future of the firehouse remains unclear, however, with a recent cost estimate for the repairs topping $1 million, Montclair Local reported.

Gov. Phil Murphy gave a green light to the fiscal year 2026 state budget earlier this year. The $58.78 billion spending plan cleared the Senate 26-13, with one senator not voting. The budget made it through the Assembly by a vote of 52-27, with one abstention.
