Stephen Colbert Makes Massive Donation to Fund Education Projects

Montclair resident and two nonprofits pony up $800,000 to fund almost 1,000 campaigns on DonorsChoose.org.

Comedian and Montclair resident Stephen Colbert isn’t afraid to put his money where his mouth is.

On Thursday, educators throughout his home state of South Carolina got a delightful shock when Colbert – in partnership with nonprofits Share Fair Nation and ScanSource - decided to fully fund almost 1,000 campaigns on the educational crowdfunding website, DonorsChoose.org.

The grand total of the donations came to $800,000.

The list of funded projects includes: a single iPad mini for use for an entire classroom, science textbooks, shape templates and plastic crayons, headphones for self-paced learning, 30 copies of the graphic novel of “The Odyssey” and graphing calculators.

Colbert, the star of “The Colbert Report” and the upcoming “Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” serves on the board of DonorsChoose.
