MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair resident scared away two people he found standing in his driveway during an early morning encounter this week, authorities say.

The Montclair Police Department released the following details about the incident, which took place on Summit Avenue on Monday:

“The resident reported that he was awoken at 3:10 a.m. by an alert of movement in his driveway. He then discovered two males standing next to his two vehicles parked in the driveway. The resident yelled to the suspects, who ran to an awaiting vehicle and fled west towards Park Street. Responding patrol units intercepted the suspect vehicle, a 2021 Hyundai Elantra, which was reported stolen out of Newark. The suspect vehicle eluded patrol and was last seen entering Bloomfield Township.”
