Thefts Reported At Montclair Supermarket, Church: Police

MPD: Someone has repeatedly stolen mail from a church mailbox in Montclair. Two people shoplifted at a supermarket and fled in a stolen car.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Thefts were reported at a supermarket and a church mailbox in Montclair last week, authorities said Tuesday.

According to the Montclair Police Department, officers responded to Kings Supermarket on Valley Road on Nov. 1 after getting a report about a shoplifting. Employees said that a man and a woman stole about $300 worth of laundry detergent, then fled the scene in a 2008 Ford Econoline van reported stolen out of Irvington.

Officers located the vehicle, but the driver fled when police tried to stop the van, authorities said.

The male suspect was wearing dark clothing. The female suspect was also wearing dark clothing and had dreadlocks, police said.

Another theft was reported on Munn Street on Nov. 4, police said.

According to the Montclair Police Department:

“The pastor at Immaculate Conception Church reported that the church mailbox was vandalized and church mail was stolen. This was the second such incident in two weeks. The mail stolen included checks.”
