Things Are About To Get ‘Medieval’ In Montclair: 2023 Festival

Enjoy an afternoon of magical fun at the MedievalFest in Montclair with jesters, music, storytelling and games.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Things are about to get “medieval” in Montclair.

Montclair Early Music (MEM) will host the 2023 MedievalFest on Saturday, Oct. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. on the green at St. James Episcopal Church, 581 Valley Road. The fair is free for children under 12. Tickets for children ages 12 to 16 are $10. Adult admission is $25.

“Enjoy an afternoon of magical fun with a medieval procession, jesters, music, storytelling and games. Make your own coat of arms or clay pot. Watch a professional weaving demonstration and try your hand at weaving. Experience a brief excerpt of ‘Antigone’ by the St. James Players. Learn to play a medieval song on the recorder or percussion instrument. Travel back in time into a fantasy village to revel in merriment and enjoy a vibrant atmosphere with Medieval music providing quality entertainment. Vendors and artists offer unique handmade wares. Light food options are also available. Guests are encouraged to come in costume and have their picture taken with a medieval character.”

The festival is a fundraiser for RecorderKids Scholarship Fund, which will help to ensure that all children have the opportunity to study a musical instrument through the group’s after-school recorder program. No child or family is ever turned away because of financial limitations, the nonprofit noted.
