Uber Eats Driver Victimized In Montclair, Other Vehicle Crimes: Police

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Someone stole an Uber Eats driver’s car in Montclair last week, one of several recent vehicle-related crimes reported in the township, authorities announced Tuesday.

The Montclair Police Department released the following information about each incident.

July 25 (Bloomfield Avenue) – A driver for Uber Eats reported that she left her vehicle running and unattended while she entered Tacoria to pick up an order. When she exited, she saw her vehicle heading north on North Willow Street. It was recovered in Paterson the following day. A 20-year-old male from Garfield and an 18-year-old male from North Arlington were charged by Passaic County authorities, police said.

July 25 to Aug. 1 – During the week of July 25 through August 1, unlocked vehicles were entered on Alexander Avenue, Claremont Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue. In one of the Claremont Avenue incidents, entry was forced by shattering a passenger side window. The victim reported six rings – valued at a total of about $3,000 – and a necklace with an attached pendant valued at $1,500 were stolen from the car, police said.

July 26 (Park Street) – A 2017 BMW X5 was stolen from a driveway on Park Street. The vehicle had been left unattended and running. It was recovered on July 30 in Newark, police said.

July 27 (Central Avenue) – A car owner reported that her 2021 BMW X7 was stolen during the overnight hours. It was recovered the following day by the NYPD. Three males from Newark were charged by that agency, police said.

July 27 (Bloomfield Avenue) – A car owner reported that his 2023 Volkswagen Atlas was stolen from the Palace Car Wash. He reported that while he was waiting for it to dry, two men entered the vehicle and fled east on Bloomfield Avenue. It was recovered on Aug. 1 in Newark, police said.
