An Uber ride ended with an injury after a driver sped away with the passenger still halfway in the car, Montclair police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — An Uber ride ended with an injury last week after a driver sped away with the passenger still halfway in the car, Montclair police announced Tuesday.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the incident took place on Highland Avenue on May 26. Here’s what happened, authorities said:

“The victim reported travelling from New York City in an Uber. Upon arriving home, a dispute over money owed occurred. During the course of the dispute, the driver reportedly grabbed a cell phone belonging to the passenger. While attempting to retrieve the phone, the driver sped off with the passenger still halfway in the car. As a result, the victim fell backwards out of the open passenger side door, striking her head on the pavement, causing a contusion on the back of her head and road rash throughout her body.”

The Uber fled south on Highland Avenue after the encounter, police said.
