Unknown Man Tries To Enter Montclair Woman’s Apartment: Police

A woman said her door was ajar, but the chain lock kept it from opening all the way. Then a man's hand reached through the gap, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — An unknown man allegedly tried to enter a woman’s apartment in Montclair last week, but ran away when she yelled out, police said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the woman told officers that she was sitting in her apartment on Orange Road on Thursday when she heard a noise coming from her rear door.

The woman said the door was ajar, but the chain lock kept it from opening all the way. She then saw a man’s hand reach through the gap, authorities said.

When the resident yelled, the man fled the scene in a dark-colored Mazda, police said.
