‘Unknown White Powder’ Found At 3 Spots In Montclair: Police

Montclair police found packages with a mystery powder inside, which were marked "69," "B" and "C."

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Police in Montclair were stumped when they found packages containing an “unknown white powder” at three different locations in town earlier this week, authorities said Tuesday.

According to the Montclair Police Department, patrol units responded to Lorraine Street, Bellevue Avenue and Valley Road on Saturday.

  • “The first occurred in the Bellevue Lorraine Parking Lot, where an officer located a zip lock baggie containing the unknown substance.”
  • “Later in the day, officers responded to Lorraine Avenue after a woman discovered nine, 2.5 x 3.5 manila envelopes with ‘69’ written in black marker, laying on the sidewalk. Four of the envelopes contained a small black plastic straw, a single white plastic keycard, and a sealed clear plastic baggie containing an unknown white powdery substance. Three of the envelopes were marked ‘B’ and contained pills. The remaining envelopes were marked ‘C’ and contained white powder.”
  • “An additional two envelopes were located later in the day on Valley Road. They were marked ‘C’ and contained a similar powder.”

No additional information was available in an initial police statement.
