UPDATE: Missing N.J. Principal Found In Philadelphia, Report Says
Bertha Dyer - principal at Mount Vernon School and a Franklin resident - was reported missing on Wednesday.
Update: On Friday afternoon, Dyer's sister reported that she was found in Philadelphia and taken to an area hospital. Authorities are conducting an investigation.
NEWARK, NJ — The search is over for an Essex County school principal reported missing this week, reports say.
According to the Franklin Township Police Department, Bertha S. Dyer, 68, of Franklin, principal at Mount Vernon Elementary in Newark, was reported missing by her sister on Wednesday.

She was reported found in Philadelphia on Friday, NJ.com stated.
Dyer's sister reportedly told police that the principal was last seen around 3 p.m. on Tuesday at her school. Dyer was slated to attend multiple meetings on Wednesday but never showed up, which prompted family members to report her missing, police said.

On Friday, Newark Public Schools Superintendent Chris Cerf provided Patch with the following statement about Dyer and Mt. Vernon’s response in her absence:
“On Wednesday night we learned that our friend and colleague Ms. Bertha Dyer, Principal at Mount Vernon School, was reported missing. The authorities are conducting an investigation, and we are doing everything we can to support this effort. We remain hopeful for a positive resolution and know that everyone will keep Ms. Dyer’s family, school staff, student body, and friends in their thoughts and prayers. If anyone has any information about Ms. Dyer’s whereabouts, please contact the Franklin Township Police Department.”
Cerf added that the district’s academic team is currently developing plans to support the Mount Vernon school community as they prepare for school opening next week, including placing a veteran principal there to lead the school on an interim basis and providing additional counselors to support students and staff on the first day of school.
Authorities said that Dyer is about 5 feet 4 inches tall and drives a white 2011 Toyota 4Runner with the New Jersey registration "U79GXM."
