Uptown Galleries to Host ART TALK November 30

Six local fine art galleries have joined together to host an evening about art for everyone.

Join the galleries of Uptown Montclair on November 30th for an evening of art talks for art lovers at all points of that journey, from folks shopping for their first piece, to serious collectors with questions about investing in art. Uptown district fine art galleries Flat File, Ampersand Interiors, Studio Montclair, Wade Maxx, Gold/scopophilia, and the Arts Unbound Showcase invite patrons to roam from one gallery to the next and see all the current exhibitions of original art in the district. Talks will be scheduled every 20-30 minutes to allow people to make their way across Uptown from Flat File to Arts Unbound and Gold/scopophilia, with Ampersand, Studio Montclair, and Wade Maxx in between.

Each gallery will welcome visitors with refreshments and artists will be on hand to discuss their work. Artwork in a range of price points will be on view.

Confirmed Art Talkers include Arjan Zazueta, an artist exhibiting at Flat File, who will speak to being a professional artist, the importance of working with galleries and the impact of selling work and connecting with buyers. James Greenberg, an art advisor in New York, will speak to visitors at Ampersand Interiors. Celene Ryan, artist coach at nonprofit Arts Unbound, will talk about artists working and selling art outside of the traditional art market and collecting "outsider" art at the Arts Unbound Showcase. Carol Cohn, Montclair resident and emerging artist exhibiting at Wade Maxx, will speak about what it takes to put yourself out there and what it means to watch others respond to your work. Artist Yolanda Fundora uses a variety of methods/media to present her work - photography, acrylic, fiber. At Studio Montclair@KW, she'll be discussing the various media and how she decides which media to use when creating her work.

Exhibitions on view that evening include large paintings by Patricia Satterlee at Gold/scopophilia. For Already Gone, Satterlee employs a personal painterly language to offer a visual universe where time compresses and expands, objects careen through spaces or slowly arrive at surfaces, shapes vacillate between fore and background. Satterlee’s palette is carefully considered. Thomas Micchelli, in his review of this work for Hyperallergic writes: “Patricia Satterlee is a superb painter whose work hasn’t quite achieved the level of visibility it deserves.”

2 Solos at Flat File/ art on paper is an exhibition of two artists creating works on paper, Tommy Kwak and Arjan Zazueta. Tommy Kwak’s work explores the transience of landscapes and natural forms through ethereal large-format color photographs. Arjan Zazueta is a multi-disciplinary visual artist based in Brooklyn, NY. His work is centered on notions of beauty and transformation.

Wade Maxx will host Montclair artist Carol Cohn’s exhibit Fairy Tales, Myths and other Dangerous Artifacts.

Insiders at The Arts Unbound Showcase is a group exhibition of so-called “outsider” artists competing in the traditional art marketplace on their own terms. Artists include Sybil Archibald and Annette Kushen, both of South Orange.

At Studio Montclair@KW, visitors will see examples of Summit artist Yolanda Fundora’s work in various media.
