Uptown or Downtown: Black Friday Shopping Choices Abound Today

Where will you go to shop today? Will it be Upper Montclair or downtown—or both? There is plenty of good shopping to be had in all parts of Montclair in honor of Black Friday.

First, in Watchung Plaza:

A "Festivus for the Rest of Us" store-wide sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25 at Watchung Booksellers. It's a one-day, "members only," jump on the holidays. (Very easy and quick to become a member.) Get 20 percent off your total purchase (yes, that includes their incredible, curated selection of books, quirky gifts, cards for every occasion, and games) when you come in and give them the secret password "FESTIVUS" at checkout.

Second, in Upper Montclair:

Gail Goodman of the Upper Montclair Business Association shared the following tips regarding shopping in the Upper Montclair Shopping Village.

Note that has invited all shoppers to come to its special Service of Advent Lessons & Carols at 3 p.m. Friday in the church building. This meditative service focuses on the readings and carols of the Advent Season (which begins on Sunday) and special music from the Choir of Men and Women.

And, now, some reasons from Goodman as to why you should visit Upper Montclair on Friday:

—Brand new expanded store at the corner of Valley Road and Bellevue Avenue—the top toy store in the area.

Montclair Center has stores and offers you won't find in the malls, according to Luther Flurry, executive director of the Montclair Center Business Improvement District.

He said that many stores in Montclair Center will stay open late Fridays through Dec. 23.
