Victim Fights Back Against Pocketbook Snatcher In Montclair: PD

A man knocked a victim to the ground trying to steal her pocketbook, but her screams caused him to flee towards a nearby park, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A pedestrian struggled with her assailant during an attempted pocketbook snatching in Montclair last week, ultimately making the suspect flee the scene with her screams, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the victim told officers that she was walking in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Pine Street on Aug. 25, when a young man approached her from behind and grabbed her pocketbook.

The man knocked her to the ground during an ensuing struggle, but the woman’s screams caused him to flee south towards Glenfield Park, police said.

The victim described her assailant as 18 to 19-years-old, about 6 feet with a thin build and no facial hair. He was wearing a blue-hooded sweatshirt, jeans and shoes, police said.
