Visions For Vacancies: What Should Take Five Guys' Place?
Rumors are swirling over what might move into the space at 622 Valley Road

Let's call this a modern spin on community planning—Patch's version of a charette, a digital drawing board where all ideas are on the table.
In an occasional column, we'll present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use. Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules, and all the other zoning jargon that puts people most to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

We launch this new occasional feature by focusing on the now vacant space at 622 Valley Road in Upper Montclair, the former home of Five Guys Burgers and Fries. The Arlington, Va.-based chain opened in November 2010 following a long 18-month wait. But then the popular burger joint disappeared without a trace the end of November 2011.
Nearly two months later and the space is still vacant. But, after talking to some nearby store owners in the area, there are some rumors floating about as to what might open up there next. One business rumored to be opening is Muscle Maker Grill, a chain that sells freshly prepared Italian and Tex-Mex wraps, pastas, salads, burgers, and Asian entrees. Rumors also have started spreading that a Thai restaurant might be looking at the space. So, in the end, what would you like to see go in there?
