MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair Mayor Sean Spiller gave the annual State of the Township address earlier this week, extolling the town’s reputation for being a “progressive, diverse community.”

During his speech at Tuesday’s town council meeting, Spiller also touched on new business openings (there were at least 49 last year in Montclair), home values hitting “record levels” (which has also presented problems, including for renters), the town’s debt reduction efforts, the launch of the Vision Zero Task Force, the town’s recently passed rent control law, and the preservation of the James Howe House, among other topics.
