Water Main Break In Montclair: Traffic, Flushing, Testing (Updated)
Montclair Town: Water has now been turned back on and the water bureau is flushing hydrants to collect water samples for bacteria testing.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — A water main break took place on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair on Tuesday, impacting traffic in the area.
The Montclair Water Bureau reported a water main break on Bloomfield Avenue at the Gates Avenue intersection, closing the Bloomfield Avenue westbound lane. The eastbound lane is open, officials said at 6:53 a.m.
“Police officers are on the scene to divert traffic to Gates Avenue and Lackawanna Plaza,” officials said.

Montclair officials gave an update on the situation shortly after noon:
“The Montclair Water Bureau reported a water main break early this morning on Bloomfield Avenue at Gates Avenue. The Bloomfield Avenue westbound lane was closed and remains inaccessible to traffic. The eastbound lane has been reopened. Police officers remain on the scene diverting traffic to Gates Avenue and Lakawanna Plaza. Several customers are affected by the water main break: 300, 306, 308, 314, 320, 321, 324, and 331 Bloomfield Avenue. A boil water notice has been hand delivered to customers at these addresses. Water has now been turned back on and the water bureau is flushing hydrants to collect water samples for bacteria testing, as required by NJDEP regulations.”
