Weeklong Water Emergency Ends In Montclair; Testing Will Continue
The large water main that broke in Nutley is "fully restored and operational," Montclair Mayor Sean Spiller said. Watch his video update.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — A weeklong state of emergency ended in Montclair on Friday after a major water main break wreaked havoc in several North Jersey towns.
Mayor Sean Spiller released a video message with the latest update, sharing the good news that the local state of emergency declared on Oct. 8 has been lifted. Under that order, Montclair residents were asked to avoid any “non-essential use of water” and use water “only when absolutely necessary.” There was no boil water advisory issued in the township.
“As of today, that line is fully restored and operational,” Spiller said, adding that the water has been tested and complies with all safety requirements.

“We will continue to do testing of the water that they are providing on our end, and if anything were to change, we would issue a boil water alert as needed,” he said.
“I'm always proud to be a Montclair resident and serve as your mayor,” Spiller concluded. “But this past week has shown how deep our commitment to this community runs with so many residents and businesses stepping up because of all of you. The state of our township is strong. And I thank you all.”
