Woman Thrown To Ground During Purse Snatching: Montclair Police

The victim was walking with her caretaker when a man approached them from behind, Montclair police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A man threw a woman to the ground and stole her purse as she was walking with her caregiver in Montclair last week, authorities announced Tuesday.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the victim was walking with her caretaker in the area of Plymouth Street and Wilde Place on May 24, when a man approached them from behind. He grabbed the victim’s purse and threw her to the ground, then ran to a nearby silver Honda Accord with a temporary registration and drove away.

The victim suffered abrasions to both knees, both palms, her right shoulder and the right side of her face. She was treated by Montclair EMS workers and transported to Mountainside Hospital for further treatment, police said.

Authorities said the suspect was described as a Black man in his late 20s or early 30s, from 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet and with short, dark curly hair. He was wearing all black clothing and had a light-blue cloth mask that was under his chin.
