YMCA of Montclair and the Montclair Recreation Department To Host

Registration is now open for this family friendly event on Sunday, June 3 that includes a USATF certified10K and a 2 Mile Fun Run/Walk

On June 3, 2018, the YMCA of Montclair and the Montclair Recreation Department will host the 36th Montclair Run. The event is a great way for individuals, families and runners of all abilities to support an active lifestyle while giving back to the community.

“This year’s race is held in loving memory of Carol Kearney,” says Pat Brechka, the Montclair Recreation Department Director and race co-director. “Carol, who co-directed the race for over 30 years with me, passed away earlier this year. She had the most kind and giving nature and was so passionate about the Y and this community and getting people active. It’s an honor to remember Carol on this special day.”

“This is an event that’s geared towards getting people of all ages moving and for parents to set a good example for their children,” says Washima Redding, Senior Health and Wellness Director at the YMCA of Montclair. “By emphasizing family time and fitness, this race helps everyone develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime.”

The YMCA of Montclair offers financial assistance for childcare, summer camp, membership and other programs to ensure opportunities for everyone to grow and thrive. The Montclair Run also makes it possible for the Montclair Recreation Department to offer scholarships for those in need in the community.

This year’s 10K run lead sponsor is Clara Maass Medical Center, a facility of RWJBarnabas Health, due to their commitment and compassion to support programs that promote health and wellness in our communities and provide access to services that would otherwise be unavailable.

"The Y’s job is to strengthen community through our programs and services,” says YMCA of Montclair President and CEO Buddy Evans. “We give over $800,000 in financial assistance to the residents of Bloomfield, Cedar Grove, Clifton, Glen Ridge, Montclair and Verona. Sponsors like Clara Maass Medical Center help to make that happen. Their support is invaluable to the community and to us.

The Montclair Run is seeking volunteers to assist with the race. Volunteers help set up for the race, hand out water, direct traffic and clean up.
