YMCA of Montclair Welcomes Four New Board Members

The YMCA of Montclair proudly announces the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The YMCA of Montclair proudly announces the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors. These individuals bring diverse expertise and a deep commitment to advancing the Y’s mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

"We are excited to welcome these accomplished leaders to our Board," said Marjorie Pierre-Merritt, Chief Volunteer Officer. "Each brings a unique perspective that will help us grow our impact and ensure our programs meet the evolving needs of our community."

David Appel, Ph.D., is currently retired. His last position was as a Senior Consultant at Milliman, Inc. Mr. Appel has deep experience in economics, risk management, and finance. His previous roles include positions at the National Council on Compensation Insurance and as a faculty member at Rutgers University, where he also earned his doctorate in economics. A longtime Montclair resident, Dr. Appel has served on the boards of Bnai Keshet and the American Risk and Insurance Association and is a dedicated YMCA member.

Donald Giordano is a Senior Vice President at AON, specializing in risk and human capital. His background includes roles in casualty, insurance, and marketing at the McGowan Companies and American International Group. Mr. Giordano has served on the boards of the Bradford Bath & Tennis Club and the Lacrosse Club of Montclair, where he was also a Head Coach. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University and resides in Montclair.

Charlotte Gladstone is a writer currently editing her debut novel with her agent at Paper Literary in London. Her background includes work in television and film production with Storyville Films and NBC’s The Apprentice, as well as legal training and journalism experience in the UK. She holds an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from City University (London), and a Legal Practice Certificate from the College of Law (York). Ms. Gladstone is a longtime YMCA of Montclair member and resident of Montclair.

Joshua Jerome is the Assistant Chief Operating Officer at Mountainside Medical Center, overseeing hospital operations and executive functions. He previously worked at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital and Hackensack University Medical Center. With a decade of healthcare leadership experience, Mr. Jerome holds an MBA in Healthcare Administration from Baruch College and a B.S. in Finance from Manhattan College. He lives in Edgewater.

"The strength of our Board is vital to our ability to serve the community," said Buddy Evans, President and CEO of the YMCA of Montclair. "These new members bring valuable insight and leadership that will help guide our efforts in creating lasting impact for individuals and families."

The YMCA also extends its deepest thanks to departing board members Alberto Bonilla, Allyn Molina, and Elizabeth Perez for their dedicated service and contributions to the organization’s mission.
