Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center Hosts Sportscasting Camp
Bruce Beck & Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp returns for an eleventh year

High school and college students have the unique opportunity to learn about sports broadcasting when WNBC-TV’s Bruce Beck and CBS/YES announcer Ian Eagle conduct their eleventh annual Sports Broadcasting Camp from July 9-13, 2012 at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center on the campus of Montclair State University.
The Bruce Beck & Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp is open to all students, male or female, ages 13-and-older. Students annually travel from across the nation to learn about play-by-play, sports talk hosting, game preparation, writing and interviewing skills, TV anchoring techniques, professional presentation, and more.

Prominent national and local sports personalities plan to visit the camp including: National Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, New York Giants Coach Tom Coughlin, Sam Rosen (FOX/MSG), Chris Carlin (SNY/WOR), Kevin Burkhardt (SNY/Compass Media), Kenny Albert (FOX/ESPN Radio), Bob Lorenz (YES), Chris Carrino (WFAN), and many others. Practice assignments lead up to the final assignment of calling a Somerset Patriots minor league baseball game.
Students enjoy the experience working with professional broadcasters one-on-one. Every year, the camp visits several notable sports or broadcast facilities such as MetLife Stadium, IZOD Center, MLB Network, and NBA TV.

Beck and Eagle will also oversee an “advanced” camp the same week for returning campers that will be headed by MSG Varsity broadcaster Mike Quick. The “advanced” camp features students doing extensive writing and on-camera work and culminates with a five-minute sportscast with the use of an MSG Varsity production truck, set, and crew.
Camp alumni are currently broadcasting for many colleges and professional networks and teams across the country.
Beck is the lead sports anchor at WNBC-TV Channel 4 in New York. He also hosts the Rutgers University football and basketball coaches TV shows. Beck was a fixture for many years on MSG Network and NBA TV. He is a long-time TV play-by-play veteran and has covered every major event from the World Series to the Olympics.
Eagle has served as a television voice of the New Jersey Nets on the YES Network for the last 16 years. He is a play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports’ coverage of the NFL, college basketball, tennis, boxing, and much more. He covers Amen Corner annually at The Masters golf tournament on www.masters.com. Eagle also calls Thursday night NFL action and the NCAA men’s basketball tournament for Westwood One radio.
