Annual Marching Band Competition To Be Held At Montville High School

High school Field Corps to perform new routine.

The Montville Township High School Field Corps and Marching Band will host the 11th Annual Mustang Classic Marching Band Competition on Saturday, October 24, 2015. The Mustang Classic is a festival of music and pageantry sanctioned by the United States Scholastic Band Association. It will take place on the MTHS football field, 100 Horseneck Road, at 4:00 PM. At least 15 marching bands, with over 1,200 student musicians and color guards, will be competing for top prizes. Among the many area high school marching bands scheduled to perform and compete are: Fair Lawn, Glen Ridge, Hunterdon Central, Lenape Valley, Morris Knolls, Northern Highlands, Oceanside, Paramus Catholic, Parsippany, Passaic, Pequannock, Pompton Lakes, Vernon, Wayne Hills, Wayne Valley and, of course, Montville.

The MTHS Field Corps, under the direction of music teacher, Ken Korlishin, will be performing its 2015 originally written program, “Equilibrium.” This year’s Corps is under the student leadership of Drum Major, Robin Lemmerz; Assistant Drum Major, Kayla Westergaard; and Color Guard Captains, Amy Zhu and Erin McGuire.

The Montville Township Field Corps has the distinction of being the 2007 State and Northern States Champions. In 2011, Montville earned 1st Place among over 25 nationally ranked bands at the Nationals Competition held at the U.S Naval Academy Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. In addition, Montville’s Field Corps has won many caption awards throughout the years for Best Music Overall, Best Overall Effect, Best Visual Effect, Best Percussion, and Best Color Guard.

The 2014 Mustangs Field Corps is also featured on the 2015 Town Planner calendar for the month of October in honor of the annual Mustang Classic event.

The magnificent Mustang Classic is an exciting and entertaining musical spectacle open to the entire community. It is a perfect family outing. MTHS and all the participating bands are dedicated and talented musicians, whose performances are awe inspiring.

The 11th Annual Mustang Classic will take place on the MTHS football field, 100 Horseneck Road, at 4:00 PM. Proceeds from the competition support the MTHS Field Corps program. General admission is $12, student and senior citizen admissions are $7 and children under 5 are free. Advanced discount ticket sales are also available until October 17.
