MONTVILLE, NJ — Montville residents will have a chance to hear from four Township Committee candidates — and submit their own questions — at an upcoming candidates forum.
Montville Rising will host its "Candidates Forum and Meet & Greet" Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 6:45 p.m. at the Senior House located at 356 Main Road. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., according to a Sept. 17 news release from the organization provided to Patch. The township also lists 356 Main Road as the Senior House address.
Montville Rising said it invited Republican incumbents Matthew Kayne and June Witty, along with Democratic candidates Emily Ryzuk and Shari Seffer, to speak about Montville-related topics ahead of the upcoming Nov. 3 midterm elections. Each speaker will have five minutes to introduce themselves and present their platform before addressing pre-submitted questions.
"We are excited to host this event. It's a great opportunity for residents to hear directly from the candidates as they speak about their vision and plans for Montville," said co-organizer Roberta Probber.
Residents can register and submit questions through Montville Rising.
For residents who cannot attend, Probber said a YouTube livestream will be available, along with the option to watch a recording later.
Probber said Montville Rising wants the questions submitted for the forum to reflect the community while giving candidates an opportunity to respond without interruption.
"Our goal is to create a respectful atmosphere," Probber said. "We intend to make this an informative and interesting event for all."
According to the press release, Montville Rising is a nonpartisan community organization focused on democracy, defense of the Constitution and strengthening local government through an informed and engaged community. The group participates in peaceful protest, civic engagement and community events and works with the Montville chapter of the Visibility Brigade.
