Bernstein, Rizio Both Qualify for Track Meet of Champions

Julia Rizio won the Group III championship in the 100-meter dash on Friday during Day 1 of this weekend's two-day high school track group championship event at South Plainfield High School. With the win, Rizio will compete Thursday in the Meet of Champions.

Rizio also qualified to compete in the Meet of Champions in the 200-meter dash with a fourth-place finish and a time of 25.42 in the event.

Taylor Bernstein will be joining Rizio in the Meet of Champions. This weekend the senior shot putter and discus thrower qualified with a 55 feet, 8.25 inch third-place finish in shot put, and another third-place finish in the discus event.

Rizio was seeded sixth in the 100 and fifth in the 200 going into this weekend's events, and Bernstein was seeded second in the shot put and third in the discus.

The Meet of Champions will be held on Thursday at the Carl Sandberg Middle School in Old Bridge at 4 p.m.
