
The Board of Education voted to appoint Sharon Carr as principal of Lazar middle school at its meeting on Tuesday.
“Sharon already has a distinguished career as a leader in our district and we are confident that she will continue to more Lazar forward to reach new instructional accomplishments,” superintendent Dr. Paul Fried said.
Carr was named acting principal in December 2010 to replace outgoing principal John Gallucci, who retired at the end of the year after 38 years in the district. Before that, she served as an assistant principal at the middle school.

“[Carr has] very big shoes to fill,” board member Jackie Ritschel said. “I know [she] is going to do really great things.”
The Board of education unanimously voted for her appointment as full-time principal.

“Often times, the most important appointments to can make are the principals in the building,” board member John Alin said. “I’m happy to vote yes for [Carr]. I think she’s a great choice and will do wonderful things.”
Board member Michael Palma called the appointment a “well-deserved promotion.”
“I think we’re all very happy to see you get this position,” he said.
Board member Dr. Matthew Kayne supported Carr’s appointment.
“Sharon Carr will be a terrific principal at the middle school,” he said.
