Montville Theatre Company presents Sweeney Todd: School Edition

Montville Township High School is proud to present Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s Sweeney Todd: School Edition, a thrilling and darkly comedic musical that has captivated audiences around the world. Performances will take place on March 5th-7th at 7:00pm and March 8th at 2:00pm at Montville Township High School.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest musicals of all time, Sweeney Todd tells the haunting story of a barber wrongfully imprisoned who returns to Victorian London seeking vengeance. Alongside the resourceful Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney embarks on a chilling journey that blends razor-sharp wit, suspenseful drama, and one of the most iconic scores in musical theatre history.

The School Edition has been thoughtfully adapted for young performers, preserving the intensity, humor, and emotional depth of the original while making the material appropriate for student audiences. Under the direction of Scott Baird, Montville Township High School’s talented cast, crew, and orchestra bring this complex production to life with striking performances, inventive staging, and powerful musical storytelling.

“This production challenges students both artistically and emotionally,” said Scott Baird, Director. “This show is unlike any other that the students have had the opportunity to work on. The complexities of the characters as well as Sondheim’s brilliant music is a truly educational experience for all involved. With our largest cast and orchestra in years, this is sure to be an epic musical experience for all!” 

Audiences can expect dramatic vocals, compelling character portrayals, and an immersive theatrical experience that showcases the dedication and artistry of Montville Township High School’s Theatre program.
