Livingston Symphony Orchestra Season Finale: "Pictures"

Livingston Symphony Orchestra Season Finale: "Pictures"

Event Details

Drew University, 36 Madison Ave, Madison, NJ, 07940

Classical music can invoke images or describe stories to listeners. Works of art can also “speak” to viewers who look upon them and often inspire musical compositions.

On June 6,at 7:30PM, Maestro Anthony LaGruth and the multigenerational Livingston Symphony Orchestra draw upon these ideas in their live concert “Pictures.” The program begins with American composer Stephen Paulus’ “Voices from the Gallery”, a narrated, musical work that accompanies a slide show of famous pieces of art while speculating what the subjects in them are thinking or trying to say. Next, Saint-Saens depicts the legendary dance of death with a devilish violin soloist and skeletal xylophone playing in his popular “Danse Macabre.” Finally, in the powerful“Pictures in an Exhibition,” the audience and composer Mussogorsky share a walk through a gallery of paintings that honor his recently departed dear friend, ending ultimately at the majestic “Great Gate of Kiev.”

Tickets for this colorful live performance can be purchased at the door or through the orchestra’s website. www.lsonj.org.
