Everything A Diner Should Be
Montville Diner good for late nights, breakfast and friendly service.
The Montville Diner serves everything you would expect at a neighborhood diner, from eggs any style to a wide selection of fish fried, broiled and stuffed 24 hours a day.
The diner stays at least a little busy throughout the day, and you're bound to run into someone you know if you live in the neighborhood. The oak wood panel walls from floor to ceiling give the dining room a warm, inviting feel as opposed to some diners that often feel cold and uncomfortable.
The diner has an extensive menu that covers breakfast, served all day, and traditional American appetizers like buffalo wings and potato skins. For lunch the diner has a large salad menu that ranges from broccoli pasta salad ($6.95) to the "Zorba the Greek" salad ($8.95).

For dinner, there are daily specials and a large selection of roasts, steaks and chops, as well as a separate Italian menu. The desserts are baked on the premises at the full bakery and range from cookies and cakes, to ice cream and pastries.
The disco fries appetizer ($4.15) came with golden brown, crispy fries and rich gravy, but the melted mozzarella cheese on top was rather brittle. The cheese broke apart rather than stretch to separation like good mozzarella cheese often does.

The happy waitress ($6.79) was a grilled cheese sandwich with two slices of tomatoes and bacon. The sandwich came with a side of fries open face and with generous portions, satisfactory by most standards.
For dessert, the "famous" strawberry cheesecake ($3.59) was good, just like the waitress claimed, but not good enough to be called famous. Though creamy, the consistency made it apparent it was not served at the ideal temperature. The strawberries tasted old and the portion was surprisingly small.
Overall, the friendly neighborhood service and great prices make the Montville Diner a repeat destination for many. As long as you can figure out the right selections to order, the food ranges from decent to great. Good for a late night stop after all the bars close and a quick mid afternoon bite in between work and picking up the kids.
