Free Plants Up For Grabs In Montville This Saturday. Here's How To Get Them

Potted shrubs left on the township's newly acquired 28-acre River Road property are available to residents while supplies last.

MONTVILLE, NJ — Montville Township will hold a free drive-thru plant giveaway Saturday, May 16, from 8 to 11 a.m. at 96 River Road, on a 28-acre property the township purchased in late 2025.

When the township acquired the property, various potted plants and shrubs were left behind. Rather than let them go to waste, officials are making them available to residents as part of a broader effort to beautify the community.

Most plants are in 3-gallon pots but vary in height, so residents are advised to make sure they have enough space in their vehicle before arriving.

Participants will drive through the designated area, park, make their selection and load items into their own vehicle. Plants are offered as-is, and the township notes it is not responsible for losses due to lack of maintenance, weather, pests or other factors.

The event is open only to Montville Township residents and businesses. Proof of residency is required at check-in. Supplies are limited and available while they last.
