Dear Parents and Guardians:

During his daily COVID-19 briefing today, Governor Murphy indicated that New Jersey schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year and our distance learning initiative will continue to close out the current academic year. While it is difficult to accept that we will not be back in our schools and classrooms this year, we must recognize that this decision was made following careful contemplation and consideration of the health and safety of school children, school employees and all of their families.
The decision today does give us some direction on next steps and also places us in a position where we now need to work through the logistics on a number of issues. Please expect additional correspondence from me, other members of the central office administration, and the school principals on a variety of topics as we work through these matters. Additional information will be provided on the following:

- Any end of the year ceremonies and celebrations that typically occur on the building level (Members of the Class of 2020 and their parents are aware of our plans for the senior class which were discussed during two virtual sessions last week).
- The calculation and return of any balances for subscription busing, cafeteria balances, and MEDLC tuition payments.
- The year-end collection of school materials and Chromebooks.
- The return of student items from school lockers and desks
- An adjustment to the school calendar for unused snow days
We know that there still is a considerable portion of the academic year that lies ahead of us. We know that our faculty and students will continue to work hard as we continue instruction through distance learning. I personally want to extend my sincere appreciation for all of the effort and support that you have provided to keep learning alive in your homes.
We continue to remain Mustang strong!
Stay well!
Sincerely,
René T. Rovtar, Ed.D.
