Hilldale collects 157 pajamas for children in need

Elementary students work with Scholastic book publisher to collect pajamas and send books to children living in shelters.

Hilldale Elementary School participated in the Scholastic Pajama Drive. Coordinated by second grade teacher, Kelly Forst, students and staff of the Montville Township Public School donated 157 pairs of new pajamas to the book publisher’s Pajama Drive. This is Hilldale’s third year of participation.

Scholastic meets each pajama donation with about two books. Since 2009, Scholastic has worked with schools to collect over 350,000 pajamas and has donated over 700,000 books to the Pajama Program, a nonprofit organization that provides new pajamas and books to children living in group homes, shelters, foster care, and orphanages. Nationwide the 2014 collection has exceeded 83,090 pajamas through Scholastic’s Pajama Drive.

The pajamas Hilldale collected were sent to area organizations including: Hope House, Market Street Mission, NJ Battered Women’s Shelter in Morristown, and Head Start in Dover.
