Indictment: Morris County Man Robbed 3 Businesses in 4 Days

A man from Succasunna is accused of robbing three different businesses in his town over the course of four days, and has been indicted on five charges, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.

Derek Morisco, 23, was indicted for two robberies and an attempted robbery that took place in the spring of 2014. He was arrested on April 4, 2014, and held on $350,000 bail.

Knapp, in a joint statement with Roxbury Township Police Chief James Simonetti, said on March 31, 2014, around 6:19 p.m., Morisco entered the Harmon Discount Store on Route 10 in Succasunna, passed a note to the cashier and demanded money. He then fled the store on foot before receiving any money from the cashier.

Two days later, on April 2 around 9:20 p.m., Morisco allegedly approached a gas station attendant at Fuel 10 Gas on Route 10 on his bicycle, armed with a knife. Morisco allegedly attempted to obtain money from the gas station attendant but was unsuccessful before fleeing the scene on is bike, Knapp said.

The following day, around 4:42 p.m., Morisco allegedly entered the Wells Fargo Bank on Route 10, and passed a note to the teller, demanding money and claiming he was armed, Knapp said. Morisco received $1,065 from the heist before fleeing the scene on foot.

Morisco was indicted on one count of second degree robbery, two counts of first degree robbery, one count of third degree possession of a knife for unlawful purpose, one count of fourth degree unlawful possession of a knife, and one count of fourth degree resisting arrest.
