Man Armed With Pellet Gun Prompts Police Stand-Off In Morris Co.: Officials

The man, 76, faces charges after pointing what was later discovered to be a pellet gun at police officers, authorities said.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County man was arrested this weekend after leading police on a stand-off while armed with what was later discovered to be a pellet gun, officials said.

On Saturday, around 5:45 p.m., county and local police responded to an incident at a home on Lenape Drive in Montville.

Authorities were able to escort one person from the home, but a second barricaded himself inside and pointed what appeared to be a gun at police, officials said.

Authorities, including the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team and Morris County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, created a perimeter around the home.

Police were eventually able to gain access to the home, where they arrested 76-year-old resident Theodore Wilson, according to officials.

Wilson was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, pointing a weapon in the direction of another person, and harassment.

The incident is still under investigation, authorities added.
