The group attending also had the opportunity to meet special guests Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik and Passaic County Commissioners Terry Duffy and Pat LePore.

Sheriff Berdnik spoke about the efforts of the Sheriff’s Department to promote gun safety and to put more officers on the street while at the same time save money for the County by closing the Passaic County jail. By entering into an agreement with the Bergen County and Essex County jails, the County was able to save hundreds of millions of dollars by eliminating the need to build a new jail facility.

Commissioners Duffy and LePore spoke about the County budget and the fact that County taxes have not increase for the last five year. The Commissioners also stressed that the County has been improving parks, museums, historic buildings and recreational facilities and that every County bridge in need of repair or replacement is now scheduled for the necessary work.

The Wayne Democratic Club will be sponsoring additional public events including a “Diversity, Inclusion & Cultural Picnic/Potluck” on July 24, 2022 and a Senior Symposium in the near future. Additional information will be posted on the Clubs Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/waynenjdemclub
