Montville Mustangs Boys Lacrosse Ties Morristown in Double OT
Montville tied the game with only a few minutes left to play, sending it to overtime, then double overtime.
The Montville Mustangs boys lacrosse team mounted a comeback against Morristown High School in a scrimmage on Friday, tying the game at six with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter and sending the game into overtime, then double overtime, where finally the teams called it quits, 6-6.
Morristown, a 15-2 team last season, was coming off a 19-0 victory against Boonton earlier this week, but, despite being behind for much of the game, Montville held on for the tie.
Morristown was the first to score when Brian Bagley hit the net with 11:15 left in the first period, followed by a second Colonials goal by Steve Delargey with 1:01 left in the first, but Montville was quick to respond when Jake Haimson scored with 11:54 left in the second period. By halftime, after another Morristown goal, Montville trailed 3-1.
Montville struck first in the second half, lessening the gap with a goal by Mike Mayse with 11:48 left in the third quarter. After going back and forth for the remainder of regulation, Montville's Andrew Reynold's tied to game at six with only 1:48 left.
After two scoreless overtimes, the coaches decided to call it a day.
