Rocksgiving Raises $2,000 For Baby Girl Battling Cancer

'I can't think of a better way to celebrate than giving back to the community,' said Anthony Sia, founder of the Montville School of Rock,

The Montville School of Rock, an group of musicians at Montville Township High School, delivered their second annual Thanksgiving benefit concert, ROCK’S GIVING II Monday.

The young musicians raised $2,000 for Emma Marie Wyman, a baby girl from Parsippany who was diagnosed with cancer before her first birthday.

“Emma continues to require medical attention. Every day seems to present a new set of obstacles,” said Danielle Vytell-Mitschele, a teacher at Robert R. Lazar Middle School in Montville, New Jersey. Vytell-Mitschele is a member of the support team known as “Emma’s Angels.” In addition to battling cancer through chemotherapy, Emma has suffered a stroke.

“But Emma keeps battling; always with a smile,” Vytell-Mitschele added.

“2015 marks the Montville School of Rock’s 10th anniversary and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than giving back to the community,” said Anthony Sia, founder of the Montville School of Rock. “We’ve spent the last two years focusing on fundraising concerts and we plan to continue performing to help worthy causes.”

Over the past several years, Montville School of Rock has held benefit concerts for a variety of local organizations including: Homeless Bus, Inc., Montville’s Drug Awareness Council, Project Graduation, The Matthew Kulick Foundation, and The Carol G. Simon Foundation.

ROCK’s GIVING is a concert movement the students created to launch the spirit of giving during the Thanksgiving season. Monday’s concert was the second annual event. Video from the performance can be seen on YouTube, Last year’s Homeless Bus Inc. concert raised $1680.

Students in the 2015 – 2016 Montville School of Rock include: Tasneem Amer, Billy Billand, Jennifer Cappuccio, Josh Carus, David Champion, Cyrus Dastparvardeh, Matty Enriquez, Alessandra Guarneri, Sruthi Gudimella, Jason Lisa, Madison Motherway, Amanda Rosado, Brenden Silverman, Catherine Tsilionis and Kevin Wang. Last night’s concert also featured guest performances by MTHS School of Rock alumni.
