Montville Volunteer Wins President's Service Award
Shivani Mehta works with Citizens Schools to teach middle-schoolers 'real-world' lessons.

A Montville resident has been awarded a national honor by President Obama for her work with middle-schoolers.
Shivani Mehta is one of this year’s honorees of the President’s Volunteer Service Awards. Mehta is a recipient of the Gold Award.
Mehta volunteers with Citizen Schools, a non-profit that partners with middle schools to assist students who live in low-income communities. She and 58 other citizen teachers were honored by President Obama recently.

“This award underscores the impact that Mehta and other citizen teachers are having on the community,” Citizen Schools said in a statement. “It demonstrates a high level of appreciate for their commitment to sharing their knowledge and passion in order to inspire students to discover and achieve their own dreams.”
The President’s Volunteer Service Awards is an initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency and the United States’ largest grantmaker for service and volunteering organizations.
