MTHS Marching Band Lands 1st Place at Nationals in Allentown, PA

Mustangs Place 1st out of 16 in Class II-A US Bands Competition. MTHS rounds out 1st at States with 1st at Nationals a week later.

The Montville Township High School Marching Band placed First at the US Bands National Competition on Saturday, November 3, 2018, in Allentown, PA. The forty-three member marching band performed their original program Elements. The MTHS Mustangs competed against 16 other Class II-A division schools, from Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, to win First Place at Nationals. In addition to the First Place title, the MTHS Mustangs also received caption awards for Best Music and Best Overall Affect.

A week earlier, on October 27, 2018, the Mustangs competed in the US Bands State Competition, in Glassboro, NJ. There the MTHS Marching Band achieved the top spot out of 11 other schools competing in Class II-A. For States the MTHS Marching Band also brought home caption awards for Best Visual Effect and Best Overall Effect.

“To win First Place at both the States and Nationals Competitions is an extraordinary achievement,” said Montville Township Public Schools’ Supervisor of Fine and Performing Arts Edward Fleischman.

“What a wonderful accomplishment,” Superintendent Dr. René Rovtar said. “I am very proud of the students and the directors for all of the work that went into capturing this title.”

The 2018 MTHS Marching Band is under the Direction of Chelsea Stebbins, with Joseph Stella and Daniel Pasquale serving as Co-Directors.

Elements, the original program performed during the 2018 season by the MTHS Marching Band, highlights the Elements of music: Rhythm, Melody, and Harmony, in six movements. The movements each feature a variety of musical styles which are both instrumentally and visually expressed.

In recognition of landing the top spot in the nation, the MTHS Marching Band was awarded a trophy that stands approximately 9’ tall.
