​OneMontville holds 2nd Annual MLK Day of Respect and Service

Families and Individuals asked to walk, work and learn to show #RespectAcceptanceKindness

OneMontville will hold the 2nd Annual MLK Day of Respect and Community Service on Monday, January 15, 2018. The event begins at 10:00 AM at the Montville Community Park, 106-130 Changebridge Road Montville, NJ.

“Last year more than 150 people of all ages attended the OneMontville MLK Day of Respect and Community Service,” said past OneMontville Board President Ron Rauschart. “It is an important day of learning about the diverse cultures that make up the Montville community and of giving time and talents to others.”

Participants are asked to bring non-perishable food items for the Montville Kiwanis Food Pantry. They are also encouraged to bring friends and family.

“The MLK Day of Respect and Community Service is a dynamic opportunity to unite all of Montville Township in service, and to bring the community together for a chance to learn about and celebrate our differences and similarities,” said OneMontville Board President Shari Schwartz. “Montville is a diverse and welcoming community. The goal of OneMontville is to highlight the Respect, Acceptance and Kindness for which Montville Township is known, and to make it a priority at all times. The OneMontville MLK Day of Respect and Community Service allows participants to work on meaningful service projects that benefit the community. It also brings the community together for an opportunity to learn more about our neighbors, and friends. No one is too young or too old to help OneMontville to help others. Through kindness we learn about each other.”

The event will step off with a walk in support of #RespectAcceptanceKindness at 10:00 AM. Participants are asked to encourage family and friends to join them for the day. Nonperishable food for the Montville Kiwanis Food Pantry will be collected at the Montville Community Park from 10:00 to 10:30 AM.

At 10:30 participants will walk from the Montville Community Park to the Montville Reformed Church on 9 Church Lane, Montville. There participants will learn about the Montville Reformed Church, Montville Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Montville United Methodist Church, and Montville Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Several volunteer opportunities will be stationed at the Reformed Church including the #OneMontvilleRocks initiative of decorating green rocks with thoughts of kindness and inspiration. The rocks are then left around town to share those kindnesses with others. FREE breakfast donated by the Montville Diner and Red Barn will also be served.

From 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM, participants may travel in their cars to three other locations helping with community service projects and enjoying delicious food provided by local restaurants.

At St. Pius X Church, 24 Change Bridge Road, Montville, MLK Day of Respect and Community service participants will learn about the Roman Catholic Church and make cards for Homeless Bus, Inc. to distribute. Homeless Bus is based in the Towaco section of Montville Township. FREE Hot lunch from three Montville restaurants: Columbia Inn, Harrigan’s and Poor Henry’s will be served.

At Pine Brook Jewish Center, 174 Changebridge Road, Montville, the MLK Day of Respect and Community Service volunteers will learn about Judaism and make puzzles to share with children at Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown. The Kosher restaurant, Jerusalem, on Route 10 in Livingston, will provide FREE food for MLK Day of Respect and Community Service participants.

At Jam-e-Masjid Islamic Center, 110 Harrison Street, Boonton, NJ, participants will be treated to a presentation on Islam and the background of the center. A FREE Halāl snack will be served.

A map and a list of activities for the Monday, January 15, 2nd Annual MLK Day of Respect and Community Service Montville Township will be distributed at the walk. Activities, learning, refreshments and service will be the theme throughout the day, as participants share food and information about community while learning about the local populations served by places of worship and other organizations throughout the Montville Township community.

The 2nd Annual OneMontville Martin Luther King Day of Respect and Community Service will take place on Monday, January 15, 2018. The event will begin at 10:00 AM at the Montville Community Park, 106-130 Changebridge Road. Activities will be held throughout the township from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Maps and an itinerary will be handed out at the walk or can be viewed as they become available on the OneMontville Facebook Page.

The 2nd Annual OneMontville Martin Luther King Day of Respect and Community Service will be an interactive, family-fun day of kindness and learning. The OneMontville organization hopes all Montville Township residents will participate, help to promote and support the 2nd Annual OneMontville Martin Luther King Day of Respect and Community Service.
