OSHA Fines Montville Demolition Company $49,000
Fine is in connection with the demolition of hangar at Newark Liberty International Airport.

MONTVILLE, NJ – A township demolition company was penalized $49,000 by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for performing work that endangered the safety of workers inside a hanger at Newark Liberty International Airport that collapsed.
Catanzaro & Sons Enterprise, which was doing business at CATCO Demolition Services, deviated from an approved plan governing the hanger’s demolition. Workers made unapproved cuts to several I beams, which weakened the hanger’s structure as employees worked inside the hangar, OSHA said.
“By not following the approved demolition plan, CATCO Demolition Services left its employees vulnerable to unnecessary risk,” said Kris Hoffman, director of OSHA’s Parsippany Area Office. “Employers must provide employees with a safe working environment; anything less than that is unacceptable.”
